High potential and gifted education

Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.

At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.

Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?

Recognising potential and developing talent

Our teachers find potential and nurture our students to be the best they can be.

Tailored lessons

Each student has different abilities. Teachers respond to each student’s ability by providing extra challenges and extension activities to keep learning exciting and engaging.

Rich opportunities and activities

Students can take part in opportunities to develop their talent in the arts, sport, leadership and more.

Opening doors to wider experiences

Our students can participate in a wide range of state-wide opportunities that aim to extend and enrich student potential.

What is high potential and gifted education?

High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We do this through:

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities

Our students engage with  HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.

In our classroom
  • Teachers identify students' learning needs in the classroom and use evidence-informed teaching practices to challenge and extend students.
  • Classroom tasks are differentiated to adjust pace, complexity and higher-order thinking.
  • Our safe learning environments encourage confidence, risk-taking, and perseverance.
  • Our teachers engage in professional learning to support the diverse needs of all students, including our high potential and gifted learners.
Across our school
  • Students develop critical communication and reasoning skills through debating and public speaking programs, supported by participation in creative writing competitions and academic challenges that foster intellectual growth.
  • Engagement with STEM is nurtured via coding clubs, makerspace projects, and critical thinking workshops such as Game Changer, Makers Empire, and Lego League, encouraging problem-solving and innovation.
  • Creative talents are celebrated through school musicals and vibrant music ensembles, providing students with opportunities to showcase their artistic abilities and collaborate in performance settings.
  • Leadership and personal growth are cultivated through student leadership roles like the Student Representative Team (SRT) and peer mentoring programs such as QuEST, while wellbeing initiatives including Highway Heroes, Kindness Curriculum, and whole-school inclusion programs promote a supportive and connected community.
  • Physical activity and teamwork are prioritised through representative sport teams (PSSA), sporting clinics with expert coaches, and school house competitions in athletics, swimming, and cross country, ensuring students develop discipline, fitness, and school spirit.
Across NSW
  • Students engage in a variety of opportunities including the Premier’s Spelling Bee, Premier’s Debating Challenge, Game Changer Challenge, Premier’s Sporting Challenge, Representative School Sport Pathway and PSSA events, Multicultural Public Speaking Competition, and the Lower North Coast Dance Festival. These programs support the development of intellectual, physical, social-emotional, and creative strengths.
  • Statewide and NSW Department of Education support is available for high potential and gifted students, and we assist with entries, preparation, and reflection to ensure every experience contributes meaningfully to student growth and learning.
