What students learn
Students learn a wide range of subjects in the NSW curriculum. They build skills, think creatively and prepare for life beyond school.
NSW public schools offer special religious education (SRE) and special education in ethics (SEE), delivered by approved providers wherever available.
Parents/caregivers in public schools have the right to have their children receive instruction in their preferred religious persuasion, where authorised teachers of that persuasion are available. Write to or email the school if you wish your child to participate in special religious education (SRE), sometimes known as scripture. Special education in ethics (SEE) is an option for your primary-age child if you withdraw them from special religious education. For more information, visit Religion and ethics.
A special religious education program is available at Port Macquarie Public School and is run by Port Macquarie Christian SRE. This is a combined group of churches within the local area. All of these organisations are on the Department of Education's list of approved providers.
All Christian SRE teachers are authorised and trained by one of the following approved providers, which also approve the curriculum used:
- Anglican Church of Australia (Diocese of Grafton),
- Baptist Union of Australia in NSW
- Grace Church Port Macquarie
- Presbyterian Church of Australia in NSW
- The Point Community Church
- Uniting Church Australia (NSW)

Special religious education (SRE) at Port Macquarie Public School occurs during timetabled lessons each week. A copy of the timetable can be obtained through the student/parent portal.
On enrolment, parents/caregivers are given the SRE participation letter to complete and return. A copy can be supplied by the school. SRE Preferences can also be made via the Online Enrolment System.
Students continue in the same arrangement each year, unless a parent or caregiver has requested a change in writing. At any time, parents and caregivers have the right to change their child's participation status in the SRE program. An email to the Principal via the front office will effect this change.
During SRE classes, students who are not enrolled in SRE or SEE do not proceed with curriculum teaching, but undertake supervised quiet study, reading or homework completion.
At our school, we give the right support to help gifted learners to grow and do their best.
We notice these students early. They may learn quickly or show strong skills in creativity, leadership, problem solving or sport. We help them stay challenged with lessons and activities that match their strengths.
